About Cork
Cork is the bark of the cork oak tree, removed every 9 years. The cork oak tree can live up to 200 years.  Removing the bark with hand tools does not harm the cork oak tree and only the bark is stripped from the tree.  The tree continues to live and grow for many years and soon after the bark is harvested, it begins the process all over again.

Hand tools are used to remove the cork bark as to not damage the cork oak tree.  It is a time-consuming and labour-intensive process, but this ensures the cork oak tree remains healthy for many years to come.

Removing cork bark has no impact on the environment.  No animals are harmed. Only the bark is removed, which regrows.

All of our cork products are handmade using cork from Portugal.

Why Cork?
The quality and suppleness of cork fabric products can only be compared to that of high quality leather.  Our cork products are extremely soft and warm to touch.  Nature produces the material to make beautiful eco-friendly products.

Unlike leather, cork fabric is:

  • 100% natural
  • vegan
  • water repellent
  • stain resistant
  • scratch proof
  • very light-weight. It is as if you are not carrying anything at all.

To maintain cork products, clean with some light soapy water and a lint free cloth. Your new cork products will age well.

Advantages of Cork
Eco-friendly: Cork is a sustainable material and only uses the bark of the cork oak so the oak can continue to live up to 200 years.

Light weight: Over half of the cork’s volume is air, which makes it very light, but it is just as durable as high-quality leather products without the weight.

Hypoallergenic: Cork does not absorb dust, a feature that protects allergy and asthma suffers.

Living with the Earth: Products made from PU (plastic) take hundreds of years to break down, if at all. Cork is biodegradable and is a natural product.  All our colour products use non-toxic dyes that meet high European standards.  They are safe for humans and the environment.

Scratch and Stain Resistant: Cork does not scratch or stain like leather or PU products. Whilst cork is a tough fabric it is very soft and flexible to touch.

Handmade: Our cork products are all made by hand by highly trained people who have perfected the technique for making cork products.  All products are hand made in Portugal.

Individual: Each piece of cork bark is different so no two products are exactly the same.  Cork is a distinctive material - your product will be noticed.

Is Cork Vegan?
All of our cork products are 100% vegan.  We are PETA approved.  No animals are harmed in making our products.  Harvesting of the cork oak bark has no impact on wild life as the oak tree is not removed.  The cork bark grows back, ready to remove again in 9 years time.
